I’ve got a problem. It may or not be that big. It could be huge.
My ‘plan’ for The Novel was to be done at or about 400 pages and/or totaling something like 100,00 words, and have it done no later than today. That would give me a month with no nagging worry in the back of my head about it during the World Cup.
As they say, no plan survives first contact with the enemy. In this case, I am my own worst enemy.
I’m closing on 500 pages now, which isn’t a problem in and of itself, but it leads into the trouble I’ve found for myself.
I don’t see the end yet. It isn’t even close, from what I can tell.
I’m writing steadily, the scenes are generally okay (for a first draft, anyway), character is being developed, and the plot is advancing. I even have a good idea how I want things to end, but I have no idea how I’m going to get there.
I will keep plugging away at it every day, doing the work, in the hopes of my story and my characters standing up and telling me where to go.
We’ll see how it turns out.

PS – I’m kind of regretting not doing an outline beforehand. Lesson learned?
