I did it tonight. Only six days after my goal, I went over the 100,000 word mark in The Novel.

I took a moment to let that sink in.  100,000 words. Over 400 pages.

That I wrote.

It’s pretty damn cool if you think about it, going from a blank page to that.

To celebrate, I’m taking tomorrow off. I have to referee for a soccer tournament and expect to be too tired for much anyway, but that is the excuse I’m giving myself.

For the next two days, I’m not going to worry about the crap I’ve vomited onto the page, or the plot and story issues I know I’m going to have to fix, or the characters that need proper names. I’m not even going to worry about how I’m going to get to where I think the story is going to end.

So, the motivational tidbit I’m going to leave everyone is this: Write every day, even if it’s only a little bit. Set goals and keep after them, even after the deadline passes. Just keep working away at whatever your project is. You’ll get wherever it is eventually, but only if you continue to attack it.

If I can do it, anyone can, as long as you don’t. give. up.
